As a Zen master may one day say Colin, "become the impossibly huge truck." A piffle, or possibly trite trifle, worth thinking about all the same. Thanks for stopping by.

The immensity of one of the tiniest galaxies in one of the darkest places they could have looked is beyond our ability to comprehend.
$3 billion is indeed a paltry piffle, as is humanity.
Our own self importance in the face of infinity is quite endearing, we are like a very small dog nipping at the wheels of an impossibly huge truck that is utterly unaware of us and able to snuff us out without ever knowing it had.

You've got to love Uncle Big Science, and $3 billion really is a trifle in the "bigger picture" of things...

Good choice of poem.

In respect of Radio Astronomy, I saw on TV that they are going to build "the Square Kilometre Array. It isn't one telescope, but rather several thousand antennas spread over 3,000 kilometres. But because they will operate as one instrument, they give coverage of the equivalent of one square kilometre and survey the heavens 10,000 times faster than anything currently operating. It will transport, process, store and recover one million million million bytes of information every day. That is equivalent to the total output of new information that humanity generates in a month."

The price is only $3 billion before cost blowout and delays etc.

Well it was "once" upon a time, rather than one time only, but the long and the short of it was that I didn't think I was very good, so for now I am trying to stick instead to my strengths...
